What Is Northstar?
Northstar is a web-based EHR and revenue platform built by Catalyst 3 for oncology practices. It connects the front desk, MA rooming, provider notes, the lab and the infusion suite in each patient's chart, and prepares charges from the care the team documents. See every part of Northstar.
Who Is Northstar For?
Oncology practices, and other specialty practices with similar clinical and billing needs. Inside the practice, it's used by the front desk, medical assistants, providers, lab staff, infusion nurses, billers and practice leadership.
Is Northstar an EHR or a Billing System?
Both. Northstar is an electronic health record for the clinical team and a revenue platform for the billing team, in one system. Billing starts from the care that was documented instead of being keyed in again. See Billing & Claim Follow-Up.
How Does Northstar Handle Chemo and Infusion Billing?
Northstar works out HCPCS billing units from the dose the nurse documented and applies JW or JZ waste modifiers based on the vial used. It also matches the drug's NDC to its billing code and flags anything unusual for your staff to review. See Chemo & Infusion.
What Are the JW and JZ Modifiers?
JW and JZ are Medicare billing modifiers for drugs from single-dose containers. JW reports the amount of drug discarded; JZ attests that none was discarded. Medicare has required JW since January 1, 2017 and JZ since July 1, 2023, according to CMS. How Northstar applies them.
How Does Northstar Protect Patient Information?
Northstar is built with HIPAA safeguards: multi-factor sign-in for every staff login, an append-only audit log, per-patient chart access, role-based permissions, and encrypted sessions. See Security.
