Billing That Follows the Care
Your billing team starts from what was documented in the chart, not from a blank screen. Charges are prepared for them, exceptions are set aside for a person to look at, and claims that need follow-up sit in one queue.
Northstar does the groundwork, and your staff makes the decisions.
- Charges Prepared From DocumentationRevenue Intelligence prepares charges from documented care, including chemo and infusion.
- Exceptions for Staff ReviewAnything unusual is flagged and routed to your billing staff.
- Medicare Fee Schedule Status CheckCodes are checked against their status in the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.
- Claim Follow-Up QueueClaims that need attention are listed in one place for your team to work.
Buy-and-Bill Raises the Stakes
Most community oncology practices buy and bill: the practice purchases the drug, administers it, then bills the payer, usually through HCPCS J-codes and units of service.
Drug claims are a large share of an oncology practice's revenue cycle, so charge capture, billing units and waste reporting have to match the chart. Claims that stall in accounts receivable (A/R) are what the follow-up queue is for.
How Billing Connects to the Rest of Northstar
Billing starts upstream. Infusion nurses document the dose and vial in the medication administration record, and that's what HCPCS units and the JW or JZ modifier are worked out from. The provider's documentation carries into charge preparation the same way.
Practice leaders can see how the practice is running in the executive dashboard.
