Lab

See what was ordered and which results came back, without chasing anyone down the hall.

From the Order to the Result

Lab staff work from the orders the provider placed. As results come back, they're in the patient's chart for the provider and for the infusion nurses who need them before treatment.

Everyone can see whether a result is back without searching the chart.

Why Lab Results Come First

Before many chemotherapy treatments, the care team reviews recent results, often a complete blood count (CBC) and a comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP). Those results help decide whether to treat, adjust the dose or hold.

If those results aren't in front of the provider and the infusion nurse, the patient waits in the chair while someone tracks them down. Northstar keeps results in the same chart where treatment is documented.

How the Lab Connects to the Rest of Northstar

Lab orders come from the provider's notes. Results then show up in the chart where infusion nurses document treatment in the medication administration record.

Lab staff sign in with their own account, and their activity is written to the audit log, the same as every other team. See Security.
